As I mentioned in our last post - on June 1st we moved from the villa we lived in for the last 4 years to another apartment complex just a kilometer away. We loved were we lived: our landlords were great, and this house held a special place in our hearts as we brought home two babies to this place. It wasn't an easy decision for us to come to - but ultimately it seemed like the right one for our growing family.
Moving day arrived! Emmalyn supervised during breakfast as the packers/movers came in and, with incredible efficiency and speed, packed and loaded up our house. The movers picked up most of the stuff and carried it down our couple flights of stairs on their back.
It was crazy to see how Jarrod and I moved here 4 years ago with just four 50lb suitcases to a semi-furnished apartment... and how in those 4 years, as we grew to a family of four, we collected enough stuff to fill two and a half truck loads!
When we arrived to our new apartment, now on the 5th floor.. I assumed (since they went out the main door in our previous apartment) that they would use the elevator in the building to bring in our stuff. I was wrong.
The movers had another truck waiting that had a crazy motorized lift attached to the back and sent it up to our living room window. (Can you imagine if we lived higher up than the 5th floor?! We had friends move in to the 14th floor above us.. I can't imagine watching my stuff go up the lift to the window so high up!)
They divided up into two groups, half at the bottom and half in our apartment, then loaded up the lift with our furniture and boxes and sent them up to the group waiting to unload and deposit the stuff in the right place.
And then they UNPACKED all that they packed up. It was crazy. In a little over half of a day, this group of 5 workers packed, moved and unpacked us completely. They even put up a clock on the wall and hung our curtain rods and curtains. They said they do this every day.
We worked to get settled in for a week before heading to the states - which was nice to come back to this apartment that was already familiar to the kids. As we continue to adjust to living here, we are so thankful for this new place to live, the elevator!, the playground outside, and friends to share it with.
It is a different feel, living in this new place, but we are so thankful that it could work out so well. And now, we are looking forward to the many memories that we will make in this apartment this next year!
Marc's bedroom and play area. :) He thinks it is great!
