We arrived back to Korea from beautiful 85 degree weather in Saipan... to find that a cold snap had settled on the country.. and it wasn't leaving! Since that time, we have had bitter cold weather - so that any precipitation that falls is snow! We were delighted for the bits of snow we were getting... knowing that our family and friends in Virginia were covered in snow at Christmastime, and wanting to enjoy the little we got here (reports of past years saying that Seoul may accumulate 3 inches in the year... it is usually cold but not much snow). 
Well... to our surprise - yesterday morning (January 4th) we awoke to find it snowing... and snowing... and snowing! We enjoyed looking at it from our apartment window and the snow continued to fall - but then ventured out as our friends, Cory and Allison, were flying into the country for a short visit. We left the warmth and comfort of our home - Jarrod, to make the trek to the airport (an adventure with all the snow); and I to get some much needed groceries prior to having guests. 
The snow was still falling, but had slowed some by this point in the afternoon. Praise the Lord that Cory and Allison's plane landed safely (despite their own inability to see a runway...) to a deserted airport - and that Jarrod was able to easily find them and bring them to our home... it just took a little bit longer to brave the snow covered roads. Here are some pictures of the ally way and main street close to where we live. 
Having lived in Northern Maine, a place that handles mass amounts of snow with ease... it was interesting to watch how Seoul reacted to this amount of snowfall, around 10-12 inches total. We have heard reports that this is the most snow that the city has seen in anywhere from the past 45-100 years. Needless to say, the city was not prepared with the latest tools of snow removal - but people were out in large numbers clearing the snow the "old-fashioned way" -using brooms to sweep away the snow, turning over signs and manually trying to clear pathways, dig out cars, and make the roads a little less slick. We venture out now with extra care - as snow and ice covered walkways abound - walking and using public transportation has never been more challenging! Still, we are glad to be here in this "historic" time for Seoul, and to share it with friends (more to come on that)! With all the cold weather, it looks like the snow will last for quite a while.

Glad to see that you got some of the amazing snow that we got earlier this season! I hope you stayed warm and enjoyed playing in it a little!
