Mommy Brain

Have you ever heard of - or suffered from - a strange phenomenon called "Mommy Brain"?  Mommy Brain is quite similar to Pregnancy Brain... in this condition, said sufferer - regardless of previous intelligence level - forgets things of everyday importance... maybe an ingredient in a recipe or the watch she wears everyday.  The cause of this previously unnamed condition is currently undetermined, studies are therefore recommended  to explore the etiology of Mommy Brain. Theories currently exist stating that this phenomenon is possibly due to sleep deprivation, hormonal fluctuations, or the 24 hours/day needs of a little human being.  Regardless, there is a positive correlation between loss of brain function and mommy-hood.

In case you are still unsure of what Mommy Brain is, here is Exhibit A:
*This new mommy has recently come down with a severe case of Mommy Brain.  She was always one to remember her keys, cell phone, money... anything that she needed when she was going out. She even remembered items for other loved ones (who will remain nameless).  Since becoming a mommy, this has drastically changed.
Example 1: On more occasions than she can count, she has left the house without her house keys (so much so that her sister would call after her "got your keys?!") leaving her at the mercy of anyone home in  her building to let her back in.
Example 2: She makes plans to do something - like go grocery shopping - and then somehow forgets until it is too late to go.
Example 3: She has taken the one joint debit card from her husband, without giving him the ATM card she was carrying around (no need since she was gong to give the debit card back after her quick trip to the store) - and then sent her husband to Costco the next day... without the Debit or ATM card!
Example 4: She sometimes forgets the WORDS to express what she is trying to say... and ends up having to use terms like "things" or "stuff".. or pause the conversation until the other person offers the word she is looking for...
Example 5: She lost her cell phone! After 8 straight years of owning a cell phone and never damaging or losing one... it is gone... who knows where (but no, she will not make a facebook group about it)!  This is not something that is easily replaced.. especially in Korea - where everything is a little more difficult due to language barriers. At least her husband was understanding.

Unfortunately, there are more examples that Exhibit A has provided, but to mention them all would make this a ridiculously long list.

Dear Stephanie's Brain,
Please come back to me. I miss you!
                 Love, Mommy Stephanie

Really, if I do suffer from mommy brain for the rest of my life,
it is totally worth it!

hahahahaha, this makes me laugh. what a cutie, he's just saying, mom, it's so worth it, would you really want your brain back? you know you don't...

i've learned the value of back-up plans--hidden spare keys, insurance on the cell phone, back-up pacifiers, diapers, wipes and a change of clothes in the car at all times... u'll adjust. :):):)
