Chingu:  Korean for Friend

One of our unofficial Chuseok traditions is to get together with some Korean friends.  Three out of the four years we have been here, we have gotten together with two Korean families over this holiday break: Stephanie's friend Kyunghee Han (YISS school nurse) and her family, and Jarrod's friend Aerook Kim and his family.  We got together with Kyunghee's family for Korean BBQ (kalbi) the week before Chuseok, and then today we were able to meet up with Aerook's family for a picnic by the Han River.

Aerook and Nara have two children, Trinity (Korean Name: Ha-un) and Troy (Korean Name: Ha-Kyung) both born within a couple months of our kids.

blew bubbles...

 flew the kite...

and shared treats. 

These friendships have been really special to us.  Each time we get together, we are once again struck with such generosity from these families.  As I remember our times together, I cannot help but think of 2 Corinthians 9:6-15.  How appropriate that we gather together with others to share out of our many blessings of plenty during this season of thanksgiving.  As this Chuseok holiday comes to a close, it is with a grateful heart that we remember our sweet Korean friends before the Lord as we thank Him for all that we have and especially for the gift of these friendships.  They are an example to us of great generosity.  May we go and do likewise.

"You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God."
